Gerardus Klerx
Gerardus Klerx — commonly called 'Gerrit' — was baptised on 1 September 1725 in Elshout, a child of Joannes Klerckx and Geriken van Broechoven. On 25 May 1754 he married Adriaantje Robbert Coenen. The couple lived in Elshout, within the manor of Oud-Heusden, and had five children. Gerrit and Adriaantje both died around 1783, without having arranged a will or guardians for their children. Therefore, on 3 September 1783, the magistrates' court of Oud-Heusden, Elshout and Hulten appointed two close blood relatives as guardians: Jan van Drunen and Gerrit Adamse Clerx. At the division of the estate on 14 December 1790, three of the children were still living: Anna Maria (married to Jan Verschuren), Helena (married to Wouter van der Lee) and the youngest, Adriaan, through whom the Klerks lineage continues. The two deeds that record this are the oldest original family documents in this archive.
