Johannes Clerkx
Johannes (Jan) Goossenss Clercx lived in the 17th century and resided at Heusden. In March 1685 he bought from the heirs of the Waalwijk brewer Adriaen Wouterss Couwenberg a little over three and a half hont of land with house and yard at Elshout, for 265 guilders; the final 132 guilders 10 stuivers he still owed for a year and paid off in 1686. He remained childless and died at Elshout. As he had no descendants, his nephews and nieces — the children of his brother Lambert — divided his property in 1707 by blind lottery: a few houses and several parcels of land in de Maeije and on de Schans at Elshout. His estate thus gives a rare, detailed picture of this early branch of the family.
