Goosen Clerckx

Goosen Clerckx was baptised in Drunen on 21 May 1649, a son of Lambert Clerckx and Adriana Petersdochter; in the deeds he is called 'Goosen Lambertsse Clercx', after his father. In 1680 he married twice within a few days — first in the Roman Catholic church at Elshout on 19 May, and shortly after, on 28 May, before the Dutch Reformed church at Drunen; the marriage produced six children. When his uncle Jan (Johannes) Goossenss Clercx died childless, Goosen was among his heirs: in the estate division of 13 January 1707 the first lot fell to him — a house with land 'in de Maeije' and land 'op de Schans' at Elshout. The family line continues through his son Joannes. Beyond his baptism, his marriage and this inheritance little about him has survived, which makes this deed all the more precious.

Recorded in the next family entry as Goosen Lambertsse Clerckx. An external family tree (MyHeritage) names him 'Wilhelmus Lambertus Clercx', with the same years (born 1649, married 1680). He may have had a double given name — for example Wilhelmus Goosen (Goswinus) Clerckx. Source S1 and the 'Goossens' patronymic of his sons point to Goosen, which we keep; 'Wilhelmus' is noted as a possible second given name. Still to be verified. In the 1707 estate division, following the death of his uncle Jan (Johannes) Goossensse Clercx (P0003), he received the first lot: a house with land in de Maeije and land on de Schans at Elshout.
