Marriage and family
On 6 February 1850 he married Gezina Maria Knippenberg. At that marriage they jointly acknowledged their little son Cornelis, born shortly before, as their lawful child. The family lived in Bennebroek, where two more children were born: Hendrik, and a third child who died in October 1850 on the day of its birth.
An early death
