Note
The family was Roman Catholic and lived in Spaarndam (Visserseinde 40) at the end of 1912. In 1913 the family fell apart and the children were placed in foster families; illness (tuberculosis in both parents) may have played a part. Two sons, Josef (P0136) and Heinrich Peter/'Henk' (P0137), were long listed as 'missing' (from letters of Leo Klerks, 1986/1988), but both have since been traced: Josef died in 1933 in Amsterdam, and Heinrich Peter returned from Germany in 1927, was transported to Germany as a forced labourer in 1944 and later emigrated to Australia. Pieter's Amsterdam municipal card gives the marriage place as München-Gladbach (Germany) and the marriage date as 7 December 1901.
