Heinrich Peter Persoon — 'Henk' — was born on 5 July 1905 in Gladbach (Germany), the son of Pieter Persoon and Anna Giesen. As a child he lived through the break-up of the family in 1913. For a long time he was regarded in the family as 'missing'; his cousin Leo Klerks searched for him for years in vain. In reality Henk built a life of his own: he became a painter — both a house painter and an artist — married on 7 August 1935 in Amstelveen to Maria Adriana Hurkens, and emigrated with her to Australia. The couple settled in Sydney, where their son grew up under the anglicised name Peerson. Maria died there in 1960, Henk in 1963. So one of the two 'missing' brothers turned out to have ended up on the other side of the world.
